Nonwovens ultrasonic welding
Sonic Italia offers nonwovens ultrasonic welding. Materials may be 100% synthetic or blend with up to 40% natural fibers. Acrylics, acetates, polyester, nylon, polypropylene, spandex and PVC are all suitable for bonding or cutting. In general, the higher the synthetic content, the easier it is to cut and seal with ultrasonic energy. Nonwowens Ultrasonic Welding including felted filter media are especially suited for ultrasonic bonding. Learn more about nonwovens ultrasonic welding
What are the advantages/differences between rotary/continuous ultrasonic bonding and stationary/traversing methods?
The rotary method works like a sewing machine and produces a continuous seam or pattern. The friction between fabric, pattern roller, and ultrasonic horn is greatly reduced if both sides rotate, instead of having the roller rotate on a stationary horn.
What is ultrasonic slitting?
Ultrasonic slitters cleanly cut and seal the edges of synthetic or blended fabrics, eliminating the disadvantages of hot wire or rotating knives. Fraying, unraveling, or beading along the cut edge is eliminated.
Advantages And Benefits Of The Nonwowens Ultrasonic Welding Bonding Process
- Consistent material characteristics; bonding and cutting with ultrasonics eliminates thermal distortion of the nonwoven material and maintains softness, loft and air permeability of the material
- Ultrasonic laminating allows for the bonding of materials with different melting points
- Ultrasonic bonding produces environmentally friendly laminates. The laminates do not contain any adhesives or other consumables making them recyclable
- Consistent weld quality even when laminating multiple layers of different materials or when bonding intermittently in cross machine direction
- The ultrasonic nonwovens welding technology offers immediate system availability without heat-up time, fast set-up and reduced energy consumption
- Major cost savings as a result of minimized scrap after machine start up and shut down
- High production speeds with ultrasonic nonwoven bonding
