How ultrasonic bonding works
Ultrasonic bonding can assemble two or more layers of material by passing them between a vibrating horn and rotary drum (also known as anvil). The rotary drum is usually made of hardened steel and it has a relief pattern.
The high-frequency of the mechanical vibrations of the horn and the pressure force between the horn and the rotary drum create frictional heat on the point of contact of these two elements.
The frictional heat bonds the material together. This gives the bonded material a high degree of softness, breathability and absorption, which makes ultrasonic bonding a great solution. These are the same proprieties, which are critical for hospital gowns, sterile garments, diapers and other applications used in the medical industry and clean room environments.
